Featured Experience: Alaska Cruises

Home to the tallest North American peak and the world’s largest bears, exploring this region will see you step into untamed, untouched wilderness.

While many envision Eskimos and igloos, Alaska is a pristine and beautiful state providing the perfect setting for a family vacation.

Despite a land mass of over 500,000 square miles, only 20 percent of the state is accessible by road, meaning Alaska lends itself naturally to exploration by combining a cruise with an overland adventure.

Guiding guests for over 70 years, Holland America Line has mapped out the entire region - from its rugged glacier-carved Inside Passage to the Yukon’s rich Klondike Gold Rush history.

Their elegant mid-sized ships and legendary service perfectly compliment their unique ability to combine the Great Land’s must-see highlights with its seldom-seen and off-the-beaten path wonders.

Holland America Line ships are designed not to tower over the scenery but to bring you closer to Alaska’s natural wonders. You’ll relax and enjoy scenes of unimaginable grandeur from the ship’s expansive wide-open decks or from your suite’s private verandah.

Enjoy the convenience and value of an optional breakfast, lunch and dinner meal-plan while onland, with all cruise dining included in your booking - as well as a professional Journey Host on land who serves as the concierge throughout Denali and the Yukon.

Our favourite: the Inside Passage Cruise

Choose whether you start your journey on land or ocean, before soaking up the highlights.

Boarding in Vancouver, Canada, you’ll get the chance to explore a second region. Soak up this fabulous city’s majestic mountains, sparkling ocean and beautiful foliage. Head over to Richmond Night Market, the biggest night market in North America, check out Capilano Suspension Bridge Park or spend your morning wandering along the shore and seeing if you can spot migrating whales swimming past.

Then jump aboard the cruise ship and head for Alaska’s waters.

Bearing the nickname the Golden Heart, Fairbanks’ location makes it a gateway to the arctic, and in summer tourist boats run cruises along the Chena and Tanana rivers. For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, fly over the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge, the Yukon River and the Arctic Circle.

Whitehorse stands at Historic Mile 918 of the Alaska Highway and remains popular to tourists for attractions like the Yukon Wildlife Preserve; the Frantic Follies; and the natural and cultural insights at the MacBride Museum.

Visit Denali Square, nestled on the 60-acre McKinley Chalet Resort at the gates of Denali National Park, it is the perfect place to soak up the Alaska experience. At the centre of Denali Square is the amphitheatre with a covered performance stage and bench seating for guests to enjoy a variety of local shows, ranger talks and demonstrations.

The city of Anchorage plants thousands of flowers to celebrate the arrival of the warmer months and days that last as long as 19 hours from dawn to dusk. Approximately 40 percent of Alaska’s population lives here and the diverse city includes a large military population, Native Alaskans and adventure-seeking types. Much like Seattle, you can find a coffee shop just about anywhere.

America’s 49th state offers a myriad of adventures, history and unforgettable scenery. For more information, get in touch or cruise on down to our store.
