Pemba Island, Tanzania

April 1, 2016

Planning the perfect honeymoon is important, and we think the combination of African safari and beach is one of the best ways to celebrate the start of married life.

Your days will be filled with intrepid adventure in one of Africa’s last untouched areas before heading over to the gorgeous Pemba Island and the idyllic Indian Ocean.

Retreat to Ruaha National Park, devoid of throngs of tourists, to enjoy the romantic isolated atmosphere, feeling like the only two people in the world. One of Africa’s last genuine wildernesses, this park is alive with game and utterly awesome views. A rugged and harsh landscape, sprawling within and along the Great Rift Valley, Ruaha epitomises the definition of wild Africa.

Staying in one of Kigelia Ruaha’s six traditional safari tents, you will feel completely secluded with an exciting anticipation of the freedom to discover and explore the largest of Tanzania’s national parks.

Your three night stay in this charming camp puts you in great proximity to explore the plethora of wildlife gems in one of East Africa's most diverse wild places. Take day and night game drives, escorted bush walks and bush picnics across the different habitats, from the rocky hills to the dense bush to the open grasslands.

London – Middle East – Dar es Salaam

Depart from London Heathrow on your flight, via the Middle East, to Dar es Salaam.

Dar es Salaam – Ruaha National Park

On arrival you will be met and transferred for a light aircraft flight to Ruaha National Park. Transferred by camp vehicle to the wonderfully remote Kigelia Camp, your game viewing will begin on the way. Your three-night stay at Kigelia Camp will include all meals, local drinks, day and night game drives, escorted bush walks, bush picnics and laundry.

This eco-focused safari camp, with its simple classic design, focuses your attention on the natural wilderness and beauty of the bush setting. Enjoy your first evening around the campfire for a sundowner, an essential part of any safari holiday.

Ruaha National Park

The next two days will be spent in the magnificent park on various shared activities, where the game is plentiful and the crowds are non-existent. Travelling across this vast land you will encounter many mammals, watching the everyday animal dramas play out in front of you.

The shores of the Great Ruaha River are a permanent hunting ground for leopard, cheetah, lion, jackal and hyena. They lie in wait hoping to catch waterbuck, Grant’s gazelle, impala and zebra. Ruaha National Park boasts the largest elephant population in East Africa, as well as rarer species like wild dog and sable antelope.

Ruaha National Park – Stone Town

Enjoy your last game drive of the morning before being transferred to the airstrip in time to board your light aircraft flight to the spice island of Zanzibar. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the charming Stone Town for your one night stay in the wonderful Zanzibar Palace with breakfast included.

Stone Town – Pemba Island

This morning you will be met by a private English speaking guide and taken on a fascinating three hour walking tour of this historical capital city, feeling as if you have stepped back in time. Once finished, you will be transferred to the airport for your short flight to the stunning Pemba Island. Met on arrival you will be taken to the amazing Fundu Lagoon, your seven night stay in a Hillside room including all meals and local drinks.

Sit down for a delicious dinner of food influenced by Arabic, Indian, Swahili and Colonial cuisines. Private dining can be arranged with a personal chef and waiter attending to your every need by candle light, underneath a blanket of stars.

The next five days are to be spent as you wish. The Indian Ocean stretches out in front of you, your playground for diving, snorkelling, windsurfing and kayaking.
