In Praise of Online Training

February 10, 2017

Geography was not my strong point in school. I left thinking that Somalia was a wine waiter.

But now the team have found an easy and useful way to learn: online training.

You can brush up on destinations, for example, or hotel chains, tour operators, car hire and attractions tickets. That's just the shortlist.

It's free, you can fit it around your day and it helps you with the goal of being a specialist. It also puts you in a great bargaining position.

I'll explain.

Take a pricematch scenario, where a client slaps a quote on your desk for a safari trip to Kenya and says, "Can you match this?

You reply with an open question:  "Have you been to Kenya before?" Fascinating country but why don't you go a few weeks later? In August it's the Wildebeest Migration- fantastic time to go…" - and there you have it, a window of opportunity to share the knowledge just picked up on your Kenya specialist programme.

Even if the booking doesn't happen, it impresses the client, it's free and learning it is fun, especially when you can do it in your own home with a nice cup of tea and biscuits on the side!
