On the road: 24 hours in Sydney

April 24, 2018

So you’re heading for the sunshine city, where bikinis are acceptable every day of the week and friendly locals have a healthy respect for honouring one's place in a queue. You’re in for a treat.

But you only have 24 hours? No problem, you don’t need to travel far and wide to see the highlights. In fact for dinner, you only need to jump into an elevator.

Here’s our guide for 24 hours in the beautiful city of Sydney.

2pm. Check-in at Establishment Hotel
Located in the middle of Sydney’s CBD, the hotel is a short walk away from Sydney Harbour and the Opera House. With 31 elegant guest rooms, including two stylist penthouse suites, access to a private gym and Establishment’s bars and restaurants, you’ll be treated to complete luxury.

3pm. Take a stroll to Sydney Harbour
Marvel at Sydney Opera House, recognised as one of the world’s most significant designs on Sydney’s foreshore. The Opera House conducts tours at regular intervals and is a must-see attraction on any trip to the city. Alongside the Opera House is Sydney Harbour Bridge, up close from Harbourside - climb the bridge with BridgeClimb - straight up to the top towering above the Harbour, where you’ll see all of the stunning city spread out before your eyes.

4pm. Jump on a ferry to Manly
Board the ferry at Sydney Harbour and head to Manly. Enjoy all the delights of the outdoors besides one of Sydney’s famous white sandy beaches, stroll along the boutique shops and treat yourself to an ice cream before grabbing the ferry back into the city.

6pm. Dinner at Mr. Wong
The buzz of 1930 jazz-era Shanghai meets a more-is-more take on traditional Chinese. The Cantonese-style menu features over 60 dishes as well as an unrivalled dim sum selection. An extremely popular dinner spot, there is usually a queue as long as the eye can see. Best of all, hotel guests are able to make reservations at Mr Wong (an exclusive VIP perk).

8pm. Salsa at Establishment Bar (Tuesdays only)
Classical elegance meets a great party atmosphere at Establishment Bar.  Flanked by lines of magnificent iron columns, the centerpiece 42 metre-long marble bar commands the room, with experienced staff ensuring quick bar service. On Tuesday evenings, the tables are cleared away and the bar becomes a centre for an evening of salsa, live percussionists and $12 mojitos.

10pm. Head to Palmer & Co. for a nightcap
Tucked down an alley and hidden underground, Palmer & Co. is a time warp to the era of prohibition with its bootleggers, sly-groggers and the like. The 1920s-style clandestine bar serves up an extensive menu of spirits and specially crafted cocktails using the finest seasonal ingredients. Settle in for a night of sensual tipples with raucous yet refined debauchery. Forget the world above, as you slip into the mystery of Palmer & Co. with dapper barmen, dazzling  flapper waitresses and live music to set the mood.

Rest your head in luxury at Establishment Hotel.

8am. Breakfast in the Garden
An oasis of sunlight and lush greenery is what you’ll find when you step into Establishment’s breathtaking ‘Garden’. With its glass walls and colonial themed-touches, the city’s only atrium offers a welcome escape from the CBD hustle and bustle. Enjoy a continental buffet breakfast or choose from the extensive hot à la carte menu.

10am. See some nature with either a trip to Taronga Zoo or Royal Botanical Gardens
The convenient all-in-one ZooPass ticket includes a delightful return ferry trip to Taronga Zoo wharf, Zoo entry, Sky Safari Ride and bus connection to the Zoo main entry gate. Touring Taronga Zoo is one of the best things to do in Sydney and offers a world-class conservation program. Royal Botanic Gardens was established in 1816 and the 30-hectare oasis is a botanical treasure house. Don't miss the tropical plants in the pyramid glasshouses.

12pm. Lunch at Pool Club
There has never been an urban oasis quite like ivy’s Pool Club. Recline poolside, sip cocktails in private cabanas and feast on sophisticated Italian cuisine all under an open air sky. Enjoy any one of Vinnie’s famous pizzas, plus a Kirin, glass of Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc, Coombe Farm Pinot Noir, San Pellegrino or Acqua Panna for just $29.

2pm. Say goodbye to Sydney
It’s time to pack your bags and say farewell after an adventurous 24 hours in beautiful Sydney.
