First Look: NoMad, Los Angeles

June 30, 2018

Soaring lobby ceilings and mezzanine fine dining, the eagerly anticipated NoMad Los Angeles has taken residence in a historic landmark, Giannini Place.

The former Bank of Italy building has been reformed by the Sydell Group and encompasses several dining and drinking areas, a library, a rooftop pool with views of the city, and 241 luxury hotel rooms.

Located on the corner of 7th and Olive Street in Downtown L.A, the hotel is home to two of the biggest culinary names.

Award-winning Chef, Daniel Humm, and Restauranteur, Will Guidara of New York’s Eleven Madison Park, which currently tops The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, provide all food and beverages, offering a refined yet approachable menu.

Designed by French architect and designer Jacques Garcia, each of the 241 rooms look to Italy for inspiration - a nod to the building's storied beginning.

The original vault that once housed 12,000 safety deposit boxes has been kept intact alongside the coffered ceiling and square pilaster columns topped with Corinthian Capitals located in the lobby and restaurant areas.

It is reminiscent of its sister property - a favourite of ours - The Ned in the City of London.

Antique mirrors slide back in the evening to reveal a full bar, transitioning the room into an intimate cocktail bar by night.

The striking rooftop features an outdoor café and cocktail bar for pool-side dining and drinking.

In addition to sweeping views of the city and the Downtown Los Angeles' skyline, the rooftop also features distinctive artwork, including a replica of the main sculpture found in the iconic Il Parco di Mostri - "Park of Monsters," a 16th-century monumental complex located in northern Lazio in Italy.

Downtown Los Angeles provides some of the city's most interesting dining, shopping and entertainment, all within walking distance.

It is conveniently situated, providing easy access to Hollywood and Santa Monica.
