First Look: EPI 1959, St Tropez, France

Introducing the iconic hotel of Ramatuelle, EPI 1959 is elegance in the heart of the French Riviera.

Bohemian in the purest sense, the hotel sits on Pampelonne beach — Saint-Tropez’ most iconic three-mile strip of sand.

More than a hotel, EPI 1959 is a destination. A place to spend the summer: play a set on the tennis courts as the sun sets, take a dip in the pool, sunbathe, or seek refuge in the shade of a tree to re-read Alain Fournier.

This is a timeless place where there are no obligations, no schedule.

EPI 1959 is perfect for those who love the beauty of simplicity.

With only 10 rooms, all facing the pool or the sea, it feels like one is being handed the keys to a friend’s villa.

The cabanas are intimate, a little quirky, and reflect a 1960s elegance just as when Hubert de Givenchy rented a cabana in Pampelonne. Paradise.

During the summer of 1959: from Paris to St Tropez, Epi Plage was on everyone’s lips. Pampelonne was becoming a favourite holiday spot for all the celebrities, from Sacha Distel to Audrey Hepburn.

At the heart of the phenomenon was a little hotel - now called EPI 1959 - where reigned all the elegance and style of that glorious era.

Summer 2019 : EPI 1959 is back, staying intimate and exclusive, with magnificent gardens designed by the renowned landscaper Madison Cox. Cox is a plant virtuoso who has designed some of the most beautiful gardens in the world, including the Majorelle garden in Marrakesh.

Within the garden, guests will discover Chotto Matte, an exciting restaurant new to France but known to London, Miami and Toronto. Internationally this vibrant brand offers a bold and authentic taste of Nikkei cuisine, an evolution of Japanese-Peruvian fare. Focusing on Sushi, Sashimi and luxury seafood options, extensive sharing menus and masterfully curated cocktails that are available in the restaurant, as well as by the beach or poolside.

The hotel’s second dining option, The Grill, is just a few steps from the sea and offers up the Saint-Tropez of the 1960s.

The idea is to serve breathtaking cuisine at any time of the day. Under the Mediterranean sun, the Epi parasols create the perfect haven to enjoy sea-fresh fare, a grilled côte de bœuf, or beautiful, seasonal tomatoes.

Breakfast is included, alongside complimentary WiFi, MiniBar (soft drinks only), Tea/Coffee facilities, Maid service twice daily, private pool beds, tennis court access, air conditioning and Bamford Toiletries. Valet Parking is available for an additional fee and pets are welcome.
