Client blog: A holiday in Cavtat, Croatia

July 15, 2019

“Firstly, we had a wonderful holiday.

It couldn’t have gone any smoother and we even enjoyed a window of lovely warm sunshine in the unsettled weather of Croatia at the moment.

With a flight time of just over two hours, an early flight from Stansted meant we were on the restaurant terrace, in the sunshine, enjoying a fabulous lunch and a glass of wine by midday.

It was perfect, especially for a short break.

The private transfer to/from Dubrovnik airport provided excellent service. The cars were nice, the drivers were friendly and they were on time, which is always a relief.

After an email from Abbotts Travel regarding our disappointment with the room last year (it’s our second visit to Hotel Albatross), we had a great room with a fabulous sea-view this time.

We booked an all-inclusive stay which is great value for money. The restaurant is buffet style and the food is very good with lots of choice. There is seating both inside and on a terrace with lovely views of the sea and mountains.

Cavtat also has lots of bars and restaurants, a popular one is Konoba Toranj with its delicious seafood and beautiful setting. We admired the yachts in the harbour whilst enjoying a cocktail or two.

The entertainment is good and not too persistent for volunteers (a pain when you just want to relax).

A holiday in Cavtat can be as busy or relaxed as you want it to be. We just wanted to enjoy the weather, great food and stunning scenery. However, there are local boat tours to neighbouring islands and of course to Dubrovnik. The ferry boat to Dubrovnik is a stone's throw away, at the beach or you can catch a bus from Cavtat which is a short, pleasant walk away.

The beach is a pebble one and home to The Acapulco Bar - where we spent a few evenings as a change to the hotel lobby bar.

We took a bus into Dubrovnik which takes about 30 minutes and returned by ferry boat. On our last visit we walked the huge City walls of the Old Town and enjoyed the incredible views. There are lots of cafes and restaurants in the Old Town, including some fine dining ones with fantastic views.

We were lucky enough to visit in low/mid-season and the sun lounger situation at the hotel was quite unbelievable - we never needed to reserve a bed because of the ample availability. The pool wasn’t huge but it was clean with fabulous views towards the sea.

It really is a great value holiday to a beautiful part of Croatia, hence our return again this year.

That said, we noticed an older crowd than before and decided we may choose not to visit this hotel again for a girls holiday (not for a while, anyway).

This is the second year Abbots Travel have organised our holiday and we couldn't have been happier. We had a wonderful holiday and would love to visit Cavtat again one day. Croatia really is very beautiful.

Thanks again to Abbotts Travel and a special thank you to Sharron for organising our trip.”
