Elk Mountain Ranch, Colorado

Elk Mountain Ranch, Colorado

Owned by the Murphy family and limited to just 30 guests, Elk Mountain Lodge is an exclusive and unforgettable experience.

Open only between June and September, it is Colorado's highest guest ranch, at a height of 9,600 feet and offers the most awe-inspiring views of the San Isabel National Forest, Collegiate Peaks and the Arkansas Valley. It is just a few hours drive from both Denver and Colorado Springs.

Elk Mountain is extremely family friendly. A full children's program is offered for ages 3 to 7. Kids are looked after daily by two counsellors and activities include arena riding, a goat walk, an afternoon at the hot springs pool and slide, petting the animals, outdoor games and a rodeo.

Adults-only weeks are usually available towards the end of August and September.

The main focus is on getting out and about and included in most stays are a luncheon trail ride, a brunch trail ride and overnight pack trip. Other activities are equally appealing from white water rafting to archery and a visit to the town of Aspen. Children particularly enjoy the goat walk and afternoon at the hot springs pool and slide. Meals range from trail ride cookouts to candlelit suppers.

There are 10 rooms to choose from.

The Elk Suite is the largest, accommodating 5-6 people.

The Pioneer Lodge comprises three en suite rooms.

There are also six cabins with separate bathrooms, and each can sleep at least four people.
