Delicious Mauritius is how Sharron has always referred to the island and now I can see why.
On descent into Mauritius I couldn’t believe how green the island was and the mountainous landscape looked so pretty.
On touchdown we swiftly made our way through the airport and were greeted by the lovely Mautourco team with fresh water and two lovely new transfer cars for our trip to our home for the next 3 nights. After roughly an hour and half drive up to the North East coast we approached The One & Only Le Saint Geran. It has recently undergone a beautiful refurbishment and driving up to reception I knew I was going to love this hotel.
My appointed room overlooked the Lagoon, which was very peaceful. The room itself was perfectly lit, airy and very spacious. With a good choice of restaurants, great kids club, spa facilities, choice of laying by the pool, hiring a day bed next to the pool or simply lazing on the beach, the hotel really is a great relaxation option with attentive happy staff.
The last two nights were spent at Paradis Golf Resort and Spa, a Beachcomber property which neighbors with Dinarobin Hotel - fabulous choices for golfers.
The hotel has the most beautiful views. On one side you get to see the glistening Indian ocean and on the other you will see the vast Morne Mountain.
Families are popular here due to the great room setup, watersports, kids club and evening entertainment.
Our next few days consisted of a jam-packed itinerary exploring the island and visiting a host of luxury hotels with a cheeky visit to Rhumerie de Chamarel Rum Distillery, which is a nice little excursion to do if you are a fan of rum.
Mautourco are the ground handlers for Inspiring Travel Company (ITC) and are always on time, very helpful and knowledgeable.
The hotels visited were all amazing and each had different selling points that would suit many different clients’ needs. Here are a few of my favorites:
Four Seasons Resort, if you are looking for peace, seclusion and the most beautiful villa style accommodation. A hotspot for celebrities so keep your eyes peeled. You can even have a private pool party organised in your villa – we were surprised at the end of the day with a great party and an evening I’ll never forget.
Constance Prince Maurice is part of the Leading Hotels of the World. This hotel is on a smaller scale than many others on the island with an intimate feel which is very relaxed. Upon arrival you get stunning views looking out over the pool and ocean. The hotel is also the only one with rooms on stilts. Go to the floating bar for evening drinks where you may spot Johnny the shark, who makes an appearance now and again, followed by dinner at Le Barachois the floating restaurant.
Lux Belle Mar & Lux Grand Gaube are situated on different parts of the island but what a great collection of hotels. They really do pull out the stops for hidden extras around the resorts. Stumble upon a wish tree were you can write a wish and tie it to the tree and hopefully at the end of the year be picked out for a free stay. Forget calling from your mobile it costs… go to a red telephone box and ring home for free.
Royal Palm, Beachcomber is also a member of Leading Hotels of the World. If you’re looking to be near Grand Baie (5 minute walk) and want a little hidden bit of luxury then Royal Palm is the place for you. It is set on a beautiful beach where you get your sunbeds allocated on arrival – so no fighting necessary. The hotel is an all-suite property with a total of 69 suites - giving a peaceful, intimate feeling during your stay.
I had the most amazing time visiting Mauritius and looking forward to visiting again and spending my own holiday there, however with so many stunning hotels I’m spoilt for choice on where to stay.
Thank you to Julian and Sharron for sending me and also a huge thank you to ITC and Sue Coupland who hosted the trip. Carly
