It has been a little while since I have engaged in the previously daily routine of coming in to work, so when Julian recently invited me to report for duty again, to say I was delighted was an understatement!
Those passionate about the travel industry will understand that it’s not just a job but a way of life, and I was very excited to be back at my desk doing what I love.
That was of course before the latest restrictions were imposed and it may be a little while before being able to resume but it was wonderful while it lasted! And it hopefully won’t be too long until being able to do so once more.
I have been away for a few months but have kept myself busy with online training, and the everchanging updates to travel corridors and entry requirements for all the destinations waiting to be explored, let alone the quarantine regulations upon returning.
I have also taken some time to reflect and have found a new love for running. I started by completing the NHS Couch 2 5k Programme back in the summer and am now running 5km three times a week!
Running is a great sport and I have found it a great way of teaching myself some patience, and my goodness, we have all needed some of that during these exceptionally hard times.
Many people are understandably dreaming of a well-earned trip away and several have been asking for my advice on which destinations I think will hit the high notes for 2021...
United Arab Emirates
Year-round sunshine, seven hours from the UK and with something for everyone, the UAE is safe and can be enjoyed as a short city break or a luxury stay in one of the top beach hotels, with outstanding facilities and superb fine dining.
For affordability, why not try the emirates of Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman or Fujairah, where there are great family options available, including all-inclusive.
The Maldives
Whether romance or celebrating, this picturesque chain of islands in the Indian Ocean is simply a holiday paradise on earth.
A group of over a thousand islands dotted around tropical waters, this is a popular choice with honeymooners, families and marine life enthusiasts.
Choose from a luxury hotel offering magical over-water villa experiences to a simpler more rustic affair for a true Robinson Crusoe experience. Just be sure to remember where you put your shoes!
The Caribbean
The Caribbean is where tropical dreams are made.
Some islands are renowned for their powder white sand beaches and fantastic resorts, others for their fishing, scuba diving and rum! I have visited and loved several so it is hard to pick a favourite, but you can travel both on a budget or lap up the glitz and glamour. Whatever you choose, you can be certain of being greeted with the warmest of welcomes and service with a smile.
These choices are a just a few of the destinations that have become a little easier to suggest, as they are currently on the travel corridor, and therefore you will not need to quarantine on arrival back in the UK. Please be aware though that most destinations will require a Covid test certificate on entry.
The green shoots are slowly starting to emerge for 2021 and I am looking forward to helping you plan your eagerly anticipated next trip.
Let’s hope for a better year ahead.
Lots of love and best wishes.
Julie
